Do I need a WhatsApp Business account?

No. Any number that can receive WhatsApp messages will work, whether it is a personal account or a business one. The link opens a chat with that number, nothing more.

Does someone have to save my number before they can message me?

That is exactly the problem this solves. Normally WhatsApp only lets you message a number you have saved as a contact, which loses you a lot of enquiries. A click to chat link skips that step and opens the conversation straight away.

Will my link stop working after a while?

Accepted Answer

Links made on this page do not expire. If you create one through our API you can set an expiry date, and once that date passes visitors see a short notice instead of being sent to WhatsApp.

Can I change the number or the message later?

Links created through the API can be edited whenever you like, and the short address stays the same, which matters a great deal once a QR code has already been printed. Links made with the form on this page cannot be edited, because there is no account attached to prove the link is yours. Create a new one instead.

How many links can I make?

Accepted Answer

Up to 20 an hour from one internet connection. That ceiling is there to keep spammers out rather than to limit normal use, and most people never come close to it.

What happens to my phone number?

We store it so we can send visitors to the right chat. That is the only reason it exists in our database. We do not message it, sell it, or add it to a marketing list.

Can I see how many people clicked?

Yes. Every click and scan is counted, along with the country it came from, the site that referred it and whether the visitor was on a phone or a computer. Visitor IP addresses are hashed with a salt that changes daily, so we can count people without ever storing anything that identifies them.

Do I get a QR code as well?

Always. Every link you create comes with a matching QR code you can download as a PNG for screens or an SVG for print. Scanning it opens the same chat, with the same message ready to send.

Can I put this on my own domain?

Not at the moment. Every link is served from wbotz.link today. Custom domains are something we are looking at.
